Dish

Continuing spotlighting some of my favorite local restaurants my culinary travels led me to another favorite spot today for lunch.  Located in the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood in Charlotte sits a small restaurant called Dish.  In this diverse neighborhood you will find people of all walks gathering for a common reason good food!

According to Dish's website the history of the building dates back to the 1950's when it was home Ho Toy restaurant Charlotte's first Asian restaurant.  The restaurant continued to be operated until the late 1990's and was then leased to a few other restaurants that were short lived.  In March of 2002 Dish leased the space and opened that July and has been a mainstay in the neighborhood since.

Dish's menu is classified Southern Comfort Food.  You will definitely find that on the menu with dishes such as Chicken and Dumplings, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pimento and Cheese, and my personal favorite
the Cajun Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes.  The Cajun Meatloaf is an awesome take on a Southern classic.  The Cajun Meatloaf is served on top of Mashed redskin potatoes and your a side of your choice I recommend the Mac and Cheese or the Green Beans.  The meatloaf and potatoes are topped with a savory and spicy Cajun red sauce with just enough bite to it without making it overwhelming.  All entrees are served with a scratch made biscuit brushed with a sweet melted honey butter.

Dish not only has great Southern food but has an array of vegetarian options on the menu, so there is really something for everyone.  Dish also has a bar in the back serving signature cocktails and hosting beer from local breweries on draft along with all of the domestic favorites.  Dish has been featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and you can see where host Guy Fieri signed their wall!  This is definitely a melting-pot location and never know who you may run into all in pursuit of great food!

The picture below is the Cajun Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes with Mac and Cheese I had for lunch today.  (I took the picture after I started to dig in and do not really do the plate presentation justice even though I tried to salvage it.)
