Stone Table

As I continue on my culinary travels today I stumbled upon a hidden gem in Monroe, NC.  I was in Monroe for a business lunch today where this restaurant was suggested we go.  As I am not from Monroe and the people I was meeting with were local's I was interested to see what they would suggest.

They suggested a local restaurant called Stone Table located in downtown Monroe.  I quickly jumped at the opportunity when I found out it was a completely local restaurant and followed their lead to the Stone Table.  Located in the middle of downtown Monroe next to an actual record store I was excited to see what this restaurant had in store.

As we walked up there were several tables outside and on a day like today allows you to take your dining experience to the next level.  Upon walking inside the line to order at the counter was stretched back to the door, I knew I was in for a treat.  Behind the counter is a huge open kitchen where you can actually see the fresh local ingredients being used like the fresh watermelon or granny smith apples being cut for the fruit cup.

Looking at the chalk board with the menu listed on it I was trying to decide and upon a suggestion from one of the guy's I was with I went with the hot roast beef sandwich.  I had all preconceived notions on what this roast beef sandwich was going to have on it such as lettuce, tomato, mayo, etc.  But to my surprise it was served on a brioche bun with tender pieces of fresh roast beef, well seasoned onion straws which I am usually not a fan of but for this it worked to my surprise.  It also had a horseradish sauce and melted cheese but the curve ball and most surprising ingredient was the fresh made coleslaw.  It was not saturated in mayo but rather had a light vinegar base to it, I have never had coleslaw on a roast beef sandwich but with all the other ingredients it was fantastic!

I hate I was not able to quickly snap a picture of this artfully prepared sandwich but I do believe I will be back for another culinary experience.  If you are looking for something truly local using local ingredients go check out Stone Table in Monroe, NC you will not be disappointed.
