Today I was meeting a friend for lunch and we could not decide where to go. So we decided to venture to Thomas Street Tavern. Thomas Street Tavern is nestled in heart of Plaza Midwood in Charlotte right next to Dish.
Thomas Street is a very eclectic bar and restaurant. You walk in to the restaurant and there are the original hardwood floors throughout the building and dark wood booths. The bar is to your right as you walk in and is crafted out of wood as well and is very spacious so there is no lack of seating at the bar.
Also there is a jukebox and pool tables so you can relax while having a drink with friends. If you walk through the restaurant and go out the back door to their patio. The patio is an awesome hangout space with ping pong tables and their own bar out there which makes for a great time when the weather is nice. They even have a fire pit for when the weather gets cooler so it makes being outside tolerable.
Their menu is top notch as well. I usually go for lunch and they are not overly crowded so it makes getting in and out in an hour a breeze. For lunch today I had the Commonwealth roast beef sandwich with their house made potato salad. The roast beef is always very juicy and tender and you can tell its freshly sliced and not in the lunch meat way either. It is served on a Nova roll with melted Swiss cheese and is served with house made horseradish sauce and au jus. One note about the horseradish, go light on it because is very spicy. I like spicy food but I always tend to overdue the horseradish and today ended up almost crying!
Overall Thomas Street Tavern is an awesome place to hangout and have a beer with friends. It has also been featured in the Charlotte Observer blog 30 Bars in 30 Days. Next time you need a fun place to go head over to Plaza Midwood to a great bar and restaurant.
